Ahhh Summer! It's finally here. Time for summer vacation. As usual, we dedicate the July issue of Fun Facts to Trips! In 2015, over 128,000 seniors participated
in trips operated by Centers in the MySeniorCenter Network. That's up 7% from 2014. The number of trips offered per
Center has more than
doubled since 2008 to 18 trips per year. Clearly, a trip program is a valuable and exciting part of a Center's offerings. In this updated issue we'll look
at trends for fee-based trips, participation patterns, and which types of trips are most popular.
Let's have a look.
Welcome to...Fun Facts - the
Searching For My Lost Shaker Of Salt
More than half of the questions we receive about trips are related to money, such as "Should we charge fees?" and "How much should we charge?"
Here's what we found out about trips and fees:
Like everything else, trip costs have increased, so as a result, trip fees have increased. The good news is that participation, on
average, isn't negatively impacted.
If I Had A Million Dollars
As we pointed out in the introduction, trip participation is at an all-time high across the Network. The increase in fees isn't hurting overall numbers,
but we wondered if there was price sensitivity at a certain point. This next graph shows participation by fee range across the Network in 2015:
The distribution is fairly consistent. It also shows that Centers are doing a great job creating trips to satisfy many different wallets!
Magic Carpet Ride
For the second year in a row, the number of trips per person has gone down (just a tiny bit), but since the overall number of trip
participants is UP, that means that more first-timers are trying out your trip programs and that's a good thing!
So who is going on all of these trips?
- 76% of trip participants are female
- 22% travel with their spouse
- Average age of participants in 2015 was 73.68
- Average age of participants in 2014 was 74.79
- 43% of all trip participants are between the ages of 70 and 79
Trips are a great carrot for bringing new members into the fold. In 2015, there was a large increase in the number of 65-69 year olds participating in trip programs.
Nearly 20% of them were first-timers. That's an exciting metric!
There will not be an issue of Fun Facts in early August while we work in some vacation time.

Have a great summer!
